How do option chains price bi-modal (binary event) expectations?
EDIT: The consensus here seems to be that the IV smile will turn into a frown if we get close enough to an especially high IV earnings event. I'm not sure that definitely answers the question, but I'll commit to updating this over the next few days as we approach NFLX earnings because I am curious as well. :-) Implied volatility often (always?) rises as the strike price moves away from the current underlying price because the basis of options pricing models assumes that returns are normally (or lognormally, or whatever distribution with a mean and standard deviation you want) distributed around the current price. Delta (or dual delta) is an indication of the probability that an option will be ITM at expiration, and it too often (always?) declines are you move away from the current price. In normal market environments this works. But there are binary events (earnings announcements, drug trials) in which the market may be split on the direction, but not on the fact that the underlying will make a substantial move after the event (say +/- 5% as an example). Typically this results in an increase in implied volatility leading up to the event, which is reasonable, since a higher than usual movement is expected in a short period of time. But the shape of the IV smile, or the way that delta works, does not change. Even though the market expects a +/-5% move, delta still implies that the probability of those +/-5% strikes is lower than the current price, which is clearly wrong. But wouldn't that imply the ATM options are enormously overpriced if a substantial move is expected, since whatever that price is, it is overestimating the probability of ATM options being ITM? Isn't that a huge, easily captured arbitrage opportunity for a simple strategy that sells ATM options before a large binary event? Help me poke holes in this. Maybe the market makers will widen the spreads so that even though it appears to be a normal pricing structure if you look at the midpoints (which we do), when you look at the prices that trades actually execute at, they will resemble the appropriate chances of it happening? But for that to be the case, the ATM spread would have to be wider than the +/-5% spreads, which seems unlikely? Perhaps it has something to do with having to sell both sides, so that gains on one side are offset by declines in the other? But again, put call parity is at work with ATM options, so both are still overpriced, and both are arb opportunities if one is?
Hey, it's some weirdo again. Bored on a gloomy day, thought I'd write down some thoughts. I see a lot of my fellow sissy weirdos having a lot of serious struggles with whether to come out, whether to live full time, and what kinds of secrets to have. It can be a very painful thing to struggle with, and for a lot of people it's what leads a harmless kink into some serious depression and anxiety. So I just wanted to share a bit about what I've learned along the way in the hopes that it could be beneficial to someone reading. Now just to start with, I have very little judgement and I don't aspire to be a bummer. The last thing I want to do is make you overthink your love of sucking cock, your desire to have your sensitive little sissy nips played with while you're in a pink tutu, or make you feel bad about your secret panty collection. This should be fun, and you should have fun! I don't think sex is inherently something to be ashamed of, nor do I think eschewing normal gender roles is inherently problematic. So don't worry, sweet little sluts, I have you. That said, we do get a little serious towards the end. I feel like I need to give a disclosure here: I live my life as a cis man, but experience some gender dysphoria and have been having sissy experiences for something like a decade. I'm not a mental health professional, and if you're struggling with serious depression, go find one instead of reading reddit threads. That said, if you want someone to relate to, some of my experiences might help. Definition of Sissy So though a million people have done this in the past, I wanted to start by defining what a sissy is. The fact is that nobody can really make a definition that works for everyone as there is no true authority on the matter. But from reading what others have interpreted and from my own personal life experience, I think that a sissy is a person born male who gets sexual gratification out of the idea of being forced/ coerced/ or seduced into acting feminine, dressing feminine, or taking on a feminine role in sex. This is meant to stand in contrast to a trans woman, who is a person assigned male at birth but who identifies distinctly as female. Trans women can certainly still enjoy sissy play, but not all sissies are trans. What's probably the most important thing to take from this definition of sissy is that it sort of has some inherent discord to the definition: "sissy" describes a person who should have had the OPPORTUNITY to be male and masculine, but who instead chooses or is forced to portray a feminine role. The very existence of sissies is thus in a state of inherent disharmony, a disharmony echoed in most sissy porn that frequently expresses coercion or plays off the idea of being degraded to a point of sexual submission. In essence, it's about being one thing AND another, at the same time. It's no surprise then that the idea of secrets and imbalance are an inherent part of the ideology. You are effectively living your life as one thing and another, so it's normal that people confront this idea of secrets and what to be open with. The Value of Secrets In short, everyone has secrets, and secrets can be a fun thing. We all like to act like we're open books, but the fact of the matter is that everyone you know has something they don't share with the world. More of us than not have unique sexual interests or have had unique sexual experiences, and even outside of sex, we all have things we don't want the world to know about. You shouldn't feel like a freak if you have a fun obsession with sexy sissy stuff. If you day dream about having a mouth full of cum all the time, you shouldn't feel bad about that. Gargle away. Secrets in this case are not inherently a bad thing. By their very nature they express a certain vulnerability: they represent something that you know that you wouldn't want the world to know about, and that can make you feel like there's a moralistic imperative to have less of them. Basically you're afraid of your secret leaking to the world, so you think to yourself that your secret is inherently bad. But it isn't! The way I always think about it is this: does your mom need to know what your favorite sex position is? Does your boss need to know when your first hand job was? These are fundamental experiences we all have that don't need to carry a moral weight to them, but that also don't need to be shared in the world. Your personal fetishes can be the same. And there are, from my personal experience, some benefits to having secrets. I spent a long time in my 20s being pretty closeted about my sexual endeavors. I'd meet up with guys from craigslist and suck their cocks, I would dress in my girlfriends clothes and have two guys over to double end me, I snuck off to gay sex parties where i'd suck cock and get fucked by strangers, and the world didn't know about it. As much as I did feel some vulnerability that my secrets might be exposed, I also felt an ongoing sense of confidence. When you have secrets like that, certain things in the world can't touch you. insults that people might make about you or assumptions about you just roll off your back: you know that they don't know the real you, so how could their opinion about you really matter? Only you know the real you. They just see what you want them to see. their judgments mean nothing. Additionally, going through some of the real scary and intense sort of stuff--having gay sex in a public restroom or glory hole, or going to a strangers house to fuck--can sort of turn down the volume on other things in life. Stuff that used to be scary simply isn't anymore because you've dealt with some REAL scary shit, and survived. Even when your secret is that you love taking it in the ass and guzzling piss and cum, it can be empowering to simply have something for YOURSELF. something that you do, because you want to do it, and you aren't afraid of the world's repercussions. The Cost of Secrets All of that said, there are certainly costs to being a secretive person, and some of those costs can be pretty serious and a real bummer. Some of them can have a drastic effect on your mental health. The first thing to confront for sissies of course is whether or not you're expressing internal homophobia or misogyny. Feeling closeted can be an awful feeling. Watching people be out and proud about being gay or being trans and you yourself having impulses that you don't share can make you see yourself as a coward, or a liar, or a fake. You can feel like you're hurting people who are out, or hiding from people who scare you. There's a lot of nuance in the sissy world about this kind of thing so I won't go at it at length, but I would encourage everyone to try to step away from those classic "is being a sissy gay" or "am i gay if i just wanna suck cock" kind of arguments. These sort of things still put the term "gay" as being this awful, OTHER thing that you don't want to be. It's inherently qualifying gay as being a worst case scenario, something to avoid, something to be afraid of. So i would encourage you to have less fear of it as a sexual identity. maybe you are bisexual, or queer, or curious, or whatever. It doesn't matter. What matters is how you feel about it. If, to you, having a preference to suck cock isn't any different than a slight preference for doggy style, then sure, maybe you don't have an obligation to come out as gay or bi or whatever. Looking at some cock here and there isn't a big deal. But if for you it's causing you to feel ashamed, then consider coming out as queer or bisexual. That's what i did! eventually i started feeling awful about being closeted in a world full of hate and homophobia, so i came out. For me, it was a good decision that ended up having a remarkably small effect on my life, and it separated a lot of the mental baggage i had. I still had my secrets, nobody knew exactly WHAT i was doing with guys, but knowing that the world had an idea made me a lot less afraid to be exposed to the world, a lot less ashamed of who i was as a person. So, to summarize, it's a personal decision, but consider non-binary options. You can identify however you want, to whoever you want. Shades of gray are not only permitted, but inevitable. (quick note: there's nothing cowardly or shameful about not coming out if you're in a scary situation. if you live with your parents and your dad is an awful homophobe, you don't have to feel an obligation to come out that said, you should start the wheels on doing ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you can to get out of that situation, at your own pace. get a job, save money, make a plan to move out and gain your own independence so you can start being yourself.) The next risk of being secretive concerns your partners. Many of you are in straight relationships and you might feel like you've got past the point of no return: if you were going to tell your partner that you sometimes suck cock or that you want to wear her clothes or that you look at weird sissy hypno porn, you feel like you should have done it by now. maybe you feel like she won't love you or respect you anymore. This obviously is going to be very different from relationship to relationship. But I would strongly recommend that you open up to people you're in relationships with, and try to do it early. The longer you're with a person the higher the odds are that they'll somehow find out what you've been up to, and if they find out that you have a whole sexual identity that they weren't aware of when they've been with you for years, this can be a very painful and traumatizing process. It isn't that the things you enjoy are inherently BAD, it's simply that you've shown that you don't trust this person to know the whole you, or to be welcomed in. and that can put a serious dent in a relationship. You certainly don't need to tell your partner every time you jerk off or show them what porn you like (unless you do that in a fun, kinky way). but if it's going to be an increasingly big part of your life, consider opening up to them about your interests. In the end, you deserve to be loved and appreciated for who you really are. \**incoming, important part**** Which leads into the biggest problem with secrets. Secrets are fun at first; as stated above, you get a thrill out of having these secret parts to you, these things that make you unique and special. you feel excited, horny, thrilled, and you have a good time. But there is a consequence to this, and that is that you'll begin to subconsciously feel that the people in your life don't know the REAL you. You'll come to believe that your friends, family, and partners only love the version of you that you PROJECT into the world, that they only love you because of who you fake you are. And when you're in a dark place in your life and you're trying to convince yourself that you are a good person, a person who's life has meaning and value... then a loved one looking you in your eyes and telling you they love you and think you're a good person will begin to feel hollow. You won't be able to take comfort in it, because you'll know that they don't actually know the REAL you. and you'll resent that part of yourself, and the people who don't know the real you, and you'll convince yourself that if they DID know the real you, they would hate you. If it isn't clear, I'm talking a bit from experience here. But fear not, there is a way out. I was a man full of secrets and lies, and eventually i realized that to really enjoy my life the way i wanted to i'd have to just be honest. I worked with my partner to open up about who i am and open up our relationship so that i could get what i needed, i gave my friends loose details about me being into weird kinky stuff (and didn't go into more detail than that) and came out as bisexual. And now, when my partner says she loves me, i can believe it. I know she knows the real me. And I have to tell you, my fellow perverts, having someone know the real you, know your deepest darkest feelings and secrets, and still LOVE you is just... the best feeling there is. Whether it's your partner or your friends or your family, it's a very uplifting feeling. So it takes work to communicate these things. You'll need to go out of your comfort zone. you'll hurt feelings, you'll have a hard time communicating, you'll stumble, you'll have moments of remorse. But if you get to the end of that road, you'll be happier and more free than you thought you could be. Whether to go Full Time Ok again, have to say that I'm not a therapist and i'm not a trans person, so take anything I say here with a grain of salt. But I know that lots and lots of you fine sissies are struggling with whether to go from fantasy to reality and transition. The first and most important thing here is that there isn't anything inherently wrong with being trans! So don't consider it a worst case scenario or anything that you should look at with dread. lots of people transition and live much happier lives, so if that's the path for you, enjoy yourself. That said! As I stated above, there's this inherent idea of being a "sissy" that means that you know that you're a man but believe you should act like or be treated like a woman. So a lot of the porn that goes along with sissy stuff tends to deliver this tempting, taunting message that you should finally take the plunge, take the leap, give in to your true desires, and transition. I guess I'd just say that you should jerk off and then think about it, if i'm being straight with you. We all get pretty ... intense, when we're in the heat of a sexual moment. when i'm horny and desperate you can feed me your ass and piss and spit in my face and i'll beg you desperately for more. I've done some shit. And for me personally, it does make me want to fall headlong into sissy play. I want to shave every inch of me, convert my body, throw away all my boxer shorts and be the sissy cock sucker cum dump i was meant to be. But i guess just keep in mind that real life is, in fact, real life. you can't actually look at the life of a cock sucking sissy as a simple ALTERNATIVE to your hum drum life because the fact is that sissies also need to do things like pay rent, have jobs, see their families on the holidays, raise their kids, see that guy from high school at the mall... all the stuff we have to do every day. The fact is there just aren't all these rich guys who want to pay you to dress pretty and be their slut, and the people who do get close to that, just get a few years out of it before they age out. So just jerk off. get it all out of your head, then go back and ask yourself how transitioning would effect your life goals, your relationships with people, and everything else you have going on. if it meets your goals, then go talk to a therapist and see if it's a good idea! If not, maybe you should just chill out and enjoy that you have this ever tempting fetish that you can enjoy for the rest of your days. In the End, Open Your Mind So that's pretty much it. I'd just want to end on this: a lot of sissies feel anxiety about their personal identity because they're trying to force that identity into boxes other people have defined. Whether you're gay or straight, whether you're a male or female, whether you're full time or part time, passable or not, a slave or a pillow princess, a cum addict or just a fantasizer.... these are all just toys for you to play with. none of them have to define you. none of them have to hurt you. you can use them to build up the identity and routine that gives you a sense of sexual satisfaction while preserving your greater life goals. so have fun with it, and relax. the world is your playground. note: if you liked reading this, i've written about lots of other sissy stuff on reddit. just click on my page and you'll see more, i think, i dunno i don't really know reddit. also, i love talking about sex and sexuality, so feel free to dm me with any questions if you don't like to comment directly.
Partners of trans people, how do you describe yourselves?
I'm the trans man in my relationship, with a cis man, and he's fishing around for "What do I call myself now?" I've always been able to dance around questions about my sexuality because I'm bi, so when my partners have transitioned, when I transitioned, I've never had to reevaluate the words I use for myself. But, prior to my transition, my partner called himself straight, and to both of us that still seems like the most "fitting" label for his sexuality - He's a man who's into women, but who happens to incidentally have feelings for exactly one man. But, we both also see the utility in him calling himself bi - It doesn't beg strange questions from strangers, it reminds people that coming to realise your own queerness late in life is just a thing that happens sometimes. We can also see an argument for calling himself gay, because the only person he's been into in any meaningful way for fifteen years is a man, with only very incidental and usually not-acted-upon attraction to women. I feel like a lot of the cis-wives-of-trans-women, who'd previously been mostly or only into men, tend to call themselves lesbian rather than bi - But I'm not sure if that's an artefact of my own (Smallish) friendship group, or something else. And likewise that many of the cis-husbands-of-trans-men who'd previously only been interested in women tend to call themselves bi. So, I thought I'd ask here, and see what you all call yourselves, and if there's any kind of community consensus as to what's "correct". Reasonings and philosophical musings absolutely welcomed and solicited! I can only poll for six options, so I went for the six binary ones that are closest to my current situation - But I'd also love to hear how lesbian women and gay men whose partners have transitioned encompass that into their orientations, and whether they change the words that they use for themselves or not, and likewise for asexual people and nonbinary people - Just really want to take the temperature of the community, since the partners of trans people can be in a fairly unique position - Like the straight partners of bi people, the cis and especially cishet partners of trans people have this position of being very adjacent to queer community, often very involved in it in some ways, but in other ways quite insulated, and you all deserve a lot more understanding and curiosity from people who are trying to understand the LGBT+ world. This section solely existed to sift the childfree from the fencesitters and the non childfree in order to get answers only from the childfree. Childfree, as it is defined in the subreddit, is "I do not have children nor want to have them in any capacity (biological, adopted, fostered, step- or other) at any point in the future." 70.29% of participants actually identify as childfree, slightly up from the 2019 survey, where 68.5% of participants identified as childfree. This is suprising in reflection of the overall reputation of the subreddit across reddit, where the subreddit is often described as an "echo chamber".
The demographics remain largely consistent with the 2019 survey. However, the 2019 survey collected demographic responses from all participants in the survey, removing those who did not identify as childfree when querying subreddit specific questions, while the 2020 survey only collected responses from people who identified as childfree. This must be considered when comparing results. 82.25% of the participants are under 35, compared with 85% of the subreddit in the 2019 survey. A slight downward trend is noted compared over the last two years suggesting the userbase may be getting older on average. 73.04% of the subreddit identify as female, compared with 71.54% in the 2019 survey. Again, when compared with the 2019 survey, this suggests a slight increase in the number of members who identify as female. This is in contrast to the overall membership of Reddit, estimated at 74% male according to Reddit's Wikipedia page [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reddit#Users_and_moderators]. The ratio of members who identify as heterosexual remained consistent, from 54.89% in the 2019 survey to 55.20% in the 2020 survey. Ethnicity wise, 77% of members identified as primarily Caucasian, consistent with the 2019 results. While the ethnicities noted to be missing in the 2019 survey have been included in the 2020 survey, some users noted the difficulty of responding when fitting multiple ethnicities, and this will be addressed in the 2021 survey.
As it did in the 2019 survey, this section highlights the stereotype of childfree people as being well educated. 2.64% of participants did not complete high school, which is a slight decrease from the 2019 survey, where 4% of participants did not graduate high school. However, 6.02% of participants are under 18, compared with 8.22% in the 2019 survey. 55% of participants have a bachelors degree or higher, while an additional 23% have completed "some college or university". At the 2020 survey, the highest percentage of responses under the: What is your degree/major? question fell under "I don't have a degree or a major" (20.12%). Arts and Humanities, and Computer Science have overtaken Health Sciences and Engineering as the two most popular majors. However, the list of majors was pared down to general fields of study rather than highly specific degree majors to account for the significant diversity in majors studied by the childfree community, which may account for the different results.
Career and Finances
The highest percentage of participants at 21.61% listed themselves as trained professionals. One of the stereotypes of the childfree is of wealth. However this is not demonstrated in the survey results. 70.95% of participants earn under $60,000 USD per annum, while 87.85% earn under $90,000 per annum. 21.37% are earning under $15,000 per annum. 1065 participants, or 21.10% chose not to disclose this information. It is possible that this may have skewed the results if a significant proportion of these people were our high income earners, but impossible to explore. A majority of our participants work between 30 and 50 hours per week (75.65%) which is slightly increased from the 2019 survey, where 71.2% of participants worked between 30 and 50 hours per week.
The location responses are largely similar to the 2019 survey with a majority of participants living in a suburban and urban area. 86.24% of participants in the 2020 survey live in urban and suburban regions, with 86.7% of participants living in urban and suburban regions in the 2019 survey. There is likely a multifactorial reason for this, encompassing the younger, educated skew of participants and the easier access to universities and employment, and the fact that a majority of the population worldwide localises to urban centres. There may be an element of increased progressive social viewpoints and identities in urban regions, however this would need to be explored further from a sociological perspective to draw any definitive conclusions. A majority of our participants (57.47%) were born in the USA. The United Kingdom (7.6%), Canada (7.17%), Australia (3.58%) and Germany (2.17%) encompass the next 4 most popular responses. This is largely consistent with the responses in the 2019 survey.
Religion and Spirituality
For the 2020 survey Christianity (the most popular result in 2019) was split into it's major denominations, Catholic, Protestant, Anglican, among others. This appears to be a linguistic/location difference that caused a lot of confusion among some participants. However, Catholicism at 30.76% remained the most popular choice for the religion participants were raised in. However, of our participant's current faith, Aetheism at 36.23% was the most popular choice. A majority of 78.02% listed their current religion as Aetheist, no religious or spiritual beliefs, or Agnostic. A majority of participants (61%) rated religion as "not at all influential" to the childfree choice. This is consistent with the 2019 survey where 62.8% rated religion as "not at all influential". Despite the high percentage of participants who identify as aetheist or agnostic, this does not appear to be related to or have an impact on the childfree choice.
Romantic and Sexual Life
60.19% of our participants are in a relationship at the time of the survey. This is consistent with the 2019 survey, where 60.7% of our participants were in a relationship. A notable proportion of our participants are listed as single and not looking (25.81%) which is consistent with the 2019 survey. Considering the frequent posts seeking dating advice as a childfree person, it is surprising that such a high proportion of the participants are not actively seeking out a relationship. Unsurprisingly 90.13% of our participants would not consider dating someone with children. 84% of participants with partners of some kind have at least one childfree partner. This is consistent with the often irreconcilable element of one party desiring children and the other wishing to abstain from having children.
Childhood and Family Life
Overall, the participants skew towards a happier childhood.
While just under half of our participants wish to be sterilised, 45.21%, only 12.2% have been successful in achieving sterilisation. This is likely due to overarching resistance from the medical profession however other factors such as the logistical elements of surgery and the cost may also contribute. There is a slight increase from the percentage of participants sterilised in the 2019 survey (11.7%). 29.33% of participants do not wish to be or need to be sterilised suggesting a partial element of satisfaction from temporary birth control methods or non-necessity of contraception due to their current lifestyle practices. Participants who indicated that they do not wish to be sterilised or haven't achieved sterilisation were excluded from the percentages where necessary in this section. Of the participants who did achieve sterilisation, a majority began the search between 19 and 29, with the highest proportion being in the 19-24 age group (35.85%) This is a marked increase from the 2019 survey where 27.3% of people who started the search were between 19-24. This may be due to increased education about permanent contraception or possibly due to an increase in instability around world events. The majority of participants who sought out and were successful at achieving sterilisation, were however in the 25-29 age group (37.9%). This is consistent with the 2019 survey results. The time taken between seeking out sterilisation and achieving it continues to increase, with only 50.46% of participants achieving sterilisation in under 3 months. This is a decline from the number of participants who achieved sterilisation in 3 months in the 2019 survey (58.5%). A potential cause of this decrease is to Covid-19 shutdowns in the medical industry leading to an increase in procedure wait times. The proportion of participants who have had one or more doctors refuse to perform the procedure has stayed consistent between the two surveys.
The main reasons for people choosing the childfree lifestyle are a lack of interest towards parenthood and an aversion towards children which is consistent with the 2019 survey. Of the people surveyed 67.06% are pet owners or involved in a pet's care, suggesting that this lack of interest towards parenthood does not necessarily mean a lack of interest in all forms of caretaking. The community skews towards a dislike of children overall which correlates well with the 87.81% of users choosing "no, I do not have, did not use to have and will not have a job that makes me heavily interact with children on a daily basis" in answer to, "do you have a job that heavily makes you interact with children on a daily basis?". This is an increase from the 2019 survey. A vast majority of the subreddit identifes as pro-choice (95.5%), a slight increase from the 2019 results. This is likely due to a high level of concern about bodily autonomy and forced birth/parenthood. However only 55.93% support financial abortion, aka for the non-pregnant person in a relationship to sever all financial and parental ties with a child. This is a marked decrease from the 2019 results, where 70% of participants supported financial abortion. Most of our users realised that did not want children young. 58.72% of participants knew they did not want children by the age of 18, with 95.37% of users realising this by age 30. This correlates well with the age distribution of participants. Despite this early realisation of our childfree stance, 80.59% of participants have been "bingoed" at some stage in their lives.
Participants who identify as childfree were asked about their interaction with and preferences with regards to the subreddit at large. Participants who do not meet our definition of being childfree were excluded from these questions. By and large our participants were lurkers (72.32%). Our participants were divided on their favourite flairs with 38.92% selecting "I have no favourite". The next most favourite flair was "Rant", at 16.35%. Our participants were similarly divided on their least favourite flair, with 63.40% selecting "I have no least favourite". In light of these results the flairs on offer will remain as they have been through 2019. With regards to "lecturing" posts, this is defined as a post which seeks to re-educate the childfree on the practices, attitudes and values of the community, particularly with regards to attitudes towards parenting and children, whether at home or in the community. A commonly used descriptor is "tone policing". A small minority of the survey participants (3.36%) selected "yes" to allowing all lectures, however 33.54% responded "yes" to allowing polite, respectful lectures only. In addition, 45.10% of participants indicated that they were not sure if lectures should be allowed. Due to the ambiguity of responses, lectures will continue to be not allowed and removed. Many of our participants (36.87%) support the use of terms such as breeder, mombie/moo, daddict/duh on the subreddit, with a further 32.63% supporting use of these terms in context of bad parents only. This is a slight drop from the 2019 survey. In response to this use of the above and similar terms to describe parents remains permitted on this subreddit. However, we encourage users to keep the use of these terms to bad parents only. 44.33% of users support the use of terms to describe children such as crotchfruit on the subreddit, a drop from 55.3% last year. A further 25.80% of users supporting the use of this and similar terms in context of bad children only, an increase from 17.42% last year. In response to this use of the above and similar terms to describe children remains permitted on this subreddit. 69.17% of participants answered yes to allowing parents to post, provided they stay respectful. In response to this, parent posts will continue to be allowed on the subreddit. As for regret posts, which were to be revisited in this year's survey, only 9.5% of participants regarded them as their least favourite post. As such they will continue to stay allowed. 64% of participants support under 18's who are childfree participating in the subreddit with a further 19.59% allowing under 18's to post dependent on context. Therefore we will continue to allow under 18's that stay within the overall Reddit age requirement. There was divide among participants as to whether "newbie" questions should be removed. An even spread was noted among participants who selected remove and those who selected to leave them as is. We have therefore decided to leave them as is. 73.80% of users selected "yes, in their own post, with their own "Leisure" flair" to the question, "Should posts about pets, travel, jetskis, etc be allowed on the sub?" Therefore we will continue to allow these posts provided they are appropriately flaired.
Thank you to our participants who contributed to the survey. This has been an unusual and difficult year for many people. Stay safe, and stay childfree.
Is the Gender Unicorn not inclusive to Intersex People because it promotes misconceptions about intersex people?
This is going to be a long post to provide explanations. Scroll to the bottom for the question.
The IHRA released a guide on how to be an ally to intersex people called Raising the bar. in it under the Don't column it lists the following. ESSENTIALISE BIOLOGY AND IDENTITY
Assume an intersex person has a neat and definable ‘true sex’; clinicians have adopted many different ideas about sex over many decades
Use tools like the Gender Unicorn or Genderbread Person – these promote misconceptions about intersex people
I'm a person who evangelizes the Gender Unicorn because of how useful it is deconstructing the word gender into its constituent parts.
Sex assigned at birth, and the often confused with gender:
Through it, it gave me a way to describe myself and explain gender identity and sexuality who may have only seen it in binaries. I thought I had read and educated myself on intersex issues, but I could not understand what the Gender Unicorn did to promote conceptions about Intersex People. So I sent IHRA an email and asked about it and if there existed an alternative I could use. This was the response I got. (I removed the preceding paragraphs as they were part of a stock slew of paragraphs they generally include with every initial emails and are quite long.))
Olivia, we’ve received a few messages today about this statement in the ‘Raising the bar’ resource. The answer to your question about why we oppose it may already be obvious to you based on your reading of the preceding paragraphs. If not, our opposition is grounded in its failures and misrepresentation of both cisgender and transgender intersex people because of actual processes of sex assignment. There are also numerous other concerns and omissions with the resources, reflecting that they were constructed to explain different issues and populations. We do not have a tool to replace it. We currently recommend using simple language to describe each population. We can provide further support through the training programs detailed on the Darlington Consortium page at https://darlington.org.au/yellow-tick-2020/
To me it wasn't clear what they meant by the actual process of sex assignment in the gender unicorn and how it misrepresents both cisgender and transgender intersex people So I asked about that (as well as asking if they only meant the gender unicorn isn't useful to describe the intersex population but is still useful to talk about gender identity irrespective of intersex characteristics) and I got this response.
Thanks for your reply. We recommend not using the Genderbread Person or Gender Unicorn because they misrepresent intersex people. They do this irrespective of how you use the tool because people can read it when you present it. When anyone is born, doctors assign sex based on observed sex characteristics. Do you understand this? In some cases, affecting some infants with intersex variations, a sex assignment is not clear, in which case doctors treat the birth as a medical emergency and perform tests to identify the intersex variation. Then they assign sex as F or M. Cisgender intersex people grow up to identify as a member of the sex assigned at birth (i.e. identify with their sex classification). This population is treated by both gender tools as if their original sex assignment was ‘intersex’, and not F or M. Their lived experiences and identities are misrepresented. They might have been subjected to forced medical interventions that affect their sexual function and sensation. Transgender intersex people grow up to identify with a different sex/gender category. They might have been subjected to forced medical interventions that affect their sexual function and sensation, and also reinforce a sex that they don’t identify with. These experiences are rendered incomprehensible by the gender tools because they assume an assignment of intersex, and not the actual assignment of F or M. There are additional problems of omission of the reality of intersex experiences.
With this explanation I realized the way I use the Gender Unicorn is different from how IHRA perceives it. To me I consider the option under sex assigned at birth, OtheIntersex to represent a third legal sex that can be assigned at birth that some countries may have and not to refer to ones intersex status. And to my mind a person who was assigned M or F regardless of whether they're intersex or endosex would choose male or female instead of assigned intersex at birth because that would not be what they were assigned. That said I understand that the way the Gender Unicorn is perceived differently IHRA and me seems to be based on the vagueness of the AGAB option and how the third option is labelled. I figured the fix would be simple. Make the label clearer are more closely related to how I've been using the Gender Unicorn so that it no longer has these issues. Their response was to tell me the following.
Thanks for your email. I’m sorry but I don’t agree with your conclusions. The fix is to stop using the resource rather than make elaborate justifications for aspects of it.
So here are my questions
How do you Feel about the Gender Unicorn? Is it inclusive to you?
Do you agree with the IHRA's stance on this that it promotes misconceptions about intersex people?
To be an ally to the intersex community should I not use the Gender Unicorn and do what they suggest?
Is there an alternative to the gender unicorn that would be more inclusive?
I do want to be a good ally on this but I'm worried the stance is throwing out the baby with the bathwater with no suggested alternative that does what the Gender Unicorn does for me and others. I don't fully understand what they meant by " using simple language to describe each population." when the Gender Unicorn wasn't used to describe populations of people. But to give language to describe people's gender identity without the use of labels. (like bi, gay, gender-nonconforming, etc) But if this is true, then I am willing to try hard to find something more inclusive. Edit: Should I not use the gender unicorn? Edit: Fixed grammar and spelling I hope I'm doing this right.
Sorry in advance for the following absolutely massive wall of text... Preface: I am a cis male (?) in a long term (14 year) hetero relationship. I'm trying to keep certain of these details vague to keep this post sfw since the story wouldn't really make sense with them completely omitted, so sorry if I do cross that line. A week ago I was absolutely certain that 100% straight. I had a few kinks that I just chalked up to being secure enough with my self to ignore whatever gendeorientation stereotypes are attached to them and enjoy them for what they were. The following is kinda the story / (admittedly very short) journey I've been on realizing that can't be true. My wife and I were having a discussion before bed and trying to give perspective about something she's feeling, she says something to the effect of, "... it's like how I truly think you'd enjoy sex with a real guy," (as opposed to using toys). I immediately shot her a look of incredulity and gave her a skeptical, "Uh... Huh..." She went on into detail that's not appropriate here. The important part is that when she was done, I couldn't argue, she was right—that sounded pretty incredible actually (though I couldn't fully admit that in the moment). A bit later in the night, she's fallen asleep and I'm wide awake trying to process this revelation. Up to that point I'd never thought of another guy as sexually attractive (as far as I could think), but there was no denying I now had a strong desire for what she described. Immediately, the analytical part of my brain starts trying to rationalize these thoughts. It's likely not actually direct attraction to guys so much as wanting the sensations that that would come from the sex. But then it's like if I want that feeling and being with a guy is the only way to get that feeling, then wouldn't that mean that I do want to be with a guy? Transitive property of desire or something lol. I did up fantasizing about being it that night, but had a lot of trouble fully imagining a person. I figured if I can't imagine it, maybe I don't want it? Or maybe I won't let myself. Or maybe I don't know what I like yet? Then I thought about it another way; if I were to go through with being with a guy, what would I want him to look like? With no effort, I was able to rattle off a list of what I'm into. Finally getting that out feels like I must have given myself permission to feel this way because it was like something clicked in my head and quite suddenly a floodgate of repressed thoughts / emotions I never even knew I was holding back let loose. Since the, I just been tring to allow myself to actually experience these feelings and attempt to internalize them. It's now clear that these thoughts go back pretty far (funny how that works). I've also noticed the occasional guy catches my eye the same way a woman might. I've continued to indulge in my fantasies, though at this point picturing a whole person is easier. What's more is the fantasies evolved from having things done to me to being a more active participant with a desire to return the favor to this imaginary partner. In this context, many of my kinks aren't kinks but just normal sex, which feels strangely validating. It's been a few days since that initial chat with my wife. I explain all this to her. She gets this bemused smirk (I think she liked being right), but tries to comfort me. Being the awesome person she is, she tells me how none of that changes how she feels about me, if anything, the openness made me more attractive in her eyes (I really am lucky). She seems pretty convinced I'm actually bi. Seeing that I'm still struggling to internalize it, she puts it this way... "What if I suddenly I was a guy, would you still want to stay with me? Would you still be attracted to me?" To which I reply, "Me back when we got together woulda been very confused. Me now, yeah of course I'd stay with you, it's you the person I'm attracted to." She shrugged, "Maybe that's your answer then. Sounds like bi or pan to me." I'm at the point where I'm really confused about what this all means, what it says about me, my identity etc. So, again analytical me starts trying to research all these feelings and such. Which is how I found this little corner of reddit actually. I found a bunch of random quizzes (some seem to have science behind them) hoping if not for an answer, at least something to help me understand what I'm feeling. I'm still struggling to internalize everything and even just organize my thoughts. I feel like I'm having a massive identity crisis. I mean, who knows you better than you know yourself? Yet here I am 30 years old knowing something as a core fact of who I am as long as I can remember, only to realize I was wrong. There's just so much swirling around in my head at the moment that I feel like I'm in a bit of a fog. I can't help but wonder maybe I actually was right and maybe these feelings are some sort of of fabrication I've felt compelled to come up with for some unknown reason. I dono, I just feel like a tourist if that makes sense. Then again, I can't fathom getting this far down the rabbit hole if there wasn't some validity. And if there is validity, what does that make me? Judging by how I feel about my wife, I know I'm not gay, but after all this there's no way I'm straight either. Beyond that I'm lost. Bi? Pan? Just curious? Actually a tourist? Looking for attention? On top of all this, in immersing myself in this topic and trying to find people with similar experiences, it made me start to question my gender too. I mean if I got my sexuality wrong for so long, who's to say I didn't get my gender wrong too? I mean I've always thought of myself as purely a cis male, but there's also always been these desires/feelings to be more feminine (and rarely female) that would almost instinctively get filed away. When shopping for clothes I often can't help but to envy the options/selection of women's clothing it feels; it often feels more my style. I wish it were more acceptable to mix and match men's and women's clothes as the mood struck. In high school I used to wear eyeliner and paint my nails, but I was an emokid, that was just part of the scene, so I'm not really sure if that factors in. I did put on some eyeliner again today for the first time in years (though I did avoid the raccoon eyes look of high school). It felt nice. Or, a month or so ago, I started shaving my legs (it's a cardinal sin to not have clean shaven legs as a cyclist (rule 33)). After doing so, I felt so much more comfortable (fuck being hairy in the FL heat) that I went and trimmed most of my body hair down to almost nothing. When I was done I felt like I was somehow bettemore content/more correct. Softer. I didn't think much of it at the time past the initial reaction, but now, with context, it feels like maybe it's another piece of this puzzle. Trying to articulate all this I found this post and it resonated deep. I'm satisfied with the bits I've got, I like my hipster beard, but I also want to feel pretty and cute and be "girly" and soft and wear a bit of makeup. Following the advice given to the OP in that thread I took a "cogiati" test. I scored a -155, which is "feminine male" which and summarized as
your internal gender identity to be mostly masculine, [...] There is, however, some indication of a strong feminine side to your being, and this is intrinsic to your constitution.
I guess that's right? Seems like decent summary the above. I mean I could get behind that; and guess that's really the important part isn't it. But then again I lack the familiarity / knowledge to recognize much beyond the binary genders, so I don't know. I just want to feel like I know myself again. As dumb as it may sound, I think a label might help.
Edit - Its been a few days since I posted so I wont be checking in to answer new questions here. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to be through my stream. This guide should still be relevant to patch 10.17 but I'd recommend QuickSilver > GA due to Titans resolve nerfs. Hello, I'm Atornyo and I first hit challenger in NA as a mech one-trick last patch and achieved as high as rank 18 in patch 10.16. I really enjoy mech as I mostly played reroll mech to hit diamond last set and think it is the most interesting composition in the game. I will be referring to mech pilots with a focus on Viktor carry as Viktor Mech. My lolchess: https://lolchess.gg/profile/na/atornyo Ideal Viktor Mech Level 8: https://lolchess.gg/buildeset3.5?deck=f6e3df00de7c11ea85825783e5dd3235 (legendaries can replace units with similar traits if you find a 2 star version of them or find a legendary before 2 starring the unit they replace: Lulu>Cass gp 1star > ziggs if you have an extra defensive item to give gp Ekko>shaco) Level 9:https://lolchess.gg/buildeset3.5?deck=1c8af8c0de7d11ea8f93e91782b06499 Items that can be used in Mech Viktor: For the Mech - Titan’s Resolve - If your mech has one of Hand of Justice or Guardian Angel or both I recommend building this item, without either of these items you won’t see much value from Titan’s Resolve until you have a level 5 or 6 mech which means you have 2 star annie rumble and fizz. This item has the potential to be the single strongest item that your mech can use and is worth playing for every game. The downside to this item is that there is zero value in slamming the item early game as it will never hit 50 stacks until you have a mech online. The only time you are looking to potentially not have this item on your mech is if there are many people contesting (a 4+ mech lobby) the reason for this is because this item greatly increases in value the higher level your mech is. Once it hits 50 stacks your mech will 1v9 especially when coupled with a Hand of Justice or Guardian Angel. Hand of Justice - This item is so good worth slamming every game as it works well on early game carries and is really solid on mech. Guardian Angel - Solid item but ONLY place this on your mech if you are certain there will be a Hand of Justice or a Titan’s Resolve with it. Works well with Titan’s because your mech doesn’t lose its Titan’s stacks after its first death and can slap around the enemy team after reviving. Works well with Hand of Justice as it can heal a significant amount of HP post mortem. This item also works really well with rumble as he will oftentimes cast after coming out of the mech and his spell doesn’t go away while reviving. Quicksilver - This item is BiS for mech IF you are unable to complete the trifecta mentioned above. In lobbies with many zephyrs this item can result in insane value, however, with optimal scouting you can sacrifice Ziggs and Cass to the Zephyr gods. The reason I believe this item isn’t as godly as many others make it out to be is the fact that it does absolutely nothing in a number of matchups other than provide 20% dodge. The problem with this item is that it is NOT slammable until you have a mech online. Bramble Vest - One of the strongest items to slam early game. If you take an armor off the starting carousel and are blessed enough to find another by 2-1 you are building this item. TrapClaw - This item is mostly just a 20% dodge stat boost. This item isn’t very slammable early personally, only build if I feel I don’t have any other options. Shroud of Stillness - This item is a 20% dodge stat boost that can turn a fight with optimal positioning. If you build this item you need to scout EVERY round. Relatively slammable early but not on the same tier as bramble. ZZ’rot - You are building this item because you want to win streak early. Neat thing with this item is that you get two voidlings over the course of the fight. Warmog’s Armor - Probably the single strongest early game item in the game, give a protector this item and go afk until stage 4. Ionic Spark - Another very slamable item, if you have a rod and a cloak at any point before krugs it is worth slamming as this item will save you infinite HP. Thieve’s Gloves - This item is a bait on mech. In the past I would play Thief’s Gloves mech as a transition unit while I pivot to a non mech composition. Nowadays I only play mech so don’t recommend giving the mech this item. Not a bad shaco item and once you replace shaco with Ekko he loves it. Itemizing Viktor - Viktor wants a morellonomicon in order to nuke the enemy team’s healing potential along with blue buff or Spear of shojin as viktor should be able to kill the backline in 2-3 spells. If you're considering playing mech here is what you should look to do in each stage: Stage 1: look to grab Armor>Tear>Crit Glove on first carousel units holding these specific items such as armor Malphite/Illaoi or tear Ziggs can be free tickets to winstreaking early. After carousel I try to hold brawlers rebels and infiltrators as I believe it is the strongest opener for mech, however if it is clear that a stronger board is available, such as a 2 star poppy or jarvan while you only have 1 star Illaoi/Malphite, it is worth pivoting to that. On the round that Kayn appears (1-4) I will prelevel which means I buy experience in order to achieve a level 4 shop on 2-1. This is very important as a unit like rumble/shaco/neeko with a belt can win streak the entirety of stage 2. I try to hold on to any Annie I find as I like to hold one whenever possible but it is worth selling her in order to pick up any brawlerebel/infiltrator or to ensure that you can pre level. Stage 2: I attempt to win streak through stage 2 every single game, Viktor Mech and Mech infiltrators are not very item dependent and you can switch between the two depending on what items the game gives you. If you have any of Bramble Vest, Hand of Justice, Guardian Angel, Ionic Spark, Warmogs, blue buff, morellonomicon, or ZZ'rot Portal it is best to slam the item as the Mech can hold any of those items other than bluebuff and morellonomicon and those last 2 items are vital for viktor, Illaoi is a great holder for Mech items and Ziggs/ahri are great holders for Viktor items. On 2-1 play whatever your strongest board is as with any non-hyperroll compositions. On 2-3 before the stage 2 carousel I will prelevel in order to get a level 5 shop on 2-5 post carousel, this is extremely strong for Mech Pilot compositions as it gives you the opportunity to hit a full Mech on stage 2 or other strong early game units like rumble gnar wukong and fizz. In the case that you are on a 2 or 3 loss streak after the stage 2 carousel it is best to attempt a full loss streak in order to maximize early gold, this is the ONLY time that I would ever consider attempting to lose a round. If you are running infiltrators in your early game composition it is extra important to scout EVERY round as the difference between an infiltrator hitting a Ziggs or a 2 star frontliner is winning or losing a fight. Stage 3: This is where a lot of decision making enters the game. If I am winstreaking with a streak of 3 or greater and I will have more than 10 gold after leveling I will level on 3-1. otherwise I will level on 3-2. If I have fizz and rumble by 3-2 and am level 6 I am willing to roll down to 10gold in order to hit an annie. If you roll down this early into the game it is vital that you do not tunnel only on units that go in your final composition, you are not rolling solely to hit a Mech you are rolling to maintain win streak this means that you will look to complete any pairs or to add unit upgrades to your current board. If you roll down and do not upgrade your board at all you will be in a very bad place so it is important to keep a very open mind on what can be thrown in to improve your composition. If I don't roll down on 3-2 I usually do not roll at all unless I am taking a large amount of damage every round in which case it can be a good idea to level to 7 post stage 3 carousel (3-5) and roll some gold to stabilize. If you are rolling it is important to not roll below 10 in stage 3 unless you have a great reason to, such as winstreaking and holding 4-6 pairs while knowing there are opponents that can beat you if you don't hit those upgrades. What to do if you hit early Mech: Mech in stage 3 can be played in many different ways. Most of the time you will sell your frontline and be looking to play Mech + whatever your strongest backliners are which are usually the level 2 units you already had. Ideally you want to have a ziggs and infiltrator or be running 4 sorcs + Mech but it is not vital in stage 3. Stage 4: This is where the decision between Viktor Mech and Mech infiltrators is made. If you are bleeding out and approaching death <40hp 4-1 it is worth leveling to 7 and rolling down to stabilize. Which means you are playing the level 8 board minus ziggs if by some miracle you hit aurelion sol feel free to play zed/ziggs/asol instead of the mystic units. However, in the majority of games you will level to 8 on 4-3 and roll for your board. The 4-3 rolldown (Viktor Mech) - While rolling you are looking to hit this board https://lolchess.gg/buildeset3.5?deck=f6e3df00de7c11ea85825783e5dd3235 it is discussed earlier when to replace units with legendaries. Also I value cass and Karma over Soraka as before the mech dies other units tend to take very little to 0 damage. If you run into a GP Mercenary upgrade in this roll down it is only worth purchasing double strike as they are so expensive. You can stop rolling once you hit the units in the composition and have a level 6 mech (2 star annie rumble and fizz), a 2 star legendary or 2 star Viktor. If you hit any of those requirements with more than 20 gold and are somewhat healthy you can usually go to level 9 later in the game in order to increase your chances at first place. If you hit a 2 star asol and do not have blue buff Asol can replace Viktor at levels 8 and 9. If you hit it is very likely that you will win streak through stage 4 and into stage 5. Stage 5: If you rolled down at level 7 on 4-1 you are leveling to 8 and rolling on 5-1 in a last ditch effort to survive. This rolldown is the same as the standard 4-3 one. If you were able to stop rolling early and have hoarded a large amount of gold, look to go level 9. Only go level 9 if you have at least 30 gold to roll or have more than 15 gold and already hold 1 or more legendary pairs. If you are about to die feel free to roll on 8 in order to complete vital 2 stars which are any mech pilot unit +viktor and shaco. The winconditions for Mech Viktor are good mech items +perfect item 2 star Viktor or Level 9 with 2 star legendaries. The optimal level 9 composition looks like this https://lolchess.gg/buildeset3.5?deck=1c8af8c0de7d11ea8f93e91782b06499 with the option to replace Viktor with urgot 2 and giving the bluebuff to urgot and the morellos to Asol. While it is situational it is almost always better to run a 2 star unit over a 1 star legendary. In the case that you were fortunate enough to find an infiltrator spatula play it on either viktor or gangplank and instead of running Asol play 4 infiltrator level 9: https://lolchess.gg/buildeset3.5?deck=7aa7b960de8511ea9ce08d2f4408daad If you hit either of these level 9 boards with 2 star units it is a 1st unless an opponent has a 3 star 4 cost unit or out positions you really badly. General advice when playing Mech Viktor:
It is optimal to run GA>QSS if you have titan resolve or Hand of justice but you have to scout every round to ensure your mech doesn't get zephyr'd
It is better to have your mech on either side versus the front
Cass and Ziggs should be placed where zephyrs will land, it doesn't matter if they are frontlined because if your mech gets zephyr'd your chances of winning the round are much lower.
When aiming infiltrators make it so Shaco is jumping straight at a carry, for Ekko you want him jumping on the same side that your mech is to ensure that he casts.
Early game focus on itemizing mech and viktor
Late game focuses on grabbing items for your 2 star legendaries. Best in Slot (BiS) for GP - GA, Dcap, Ionic spark (only if mech doesn't have one) Ekko - statikk shiv, rfc, shojin, hoj, runanns. Asol - All damage focused AP items and Hand of Justice.
Always put mech items on rumble as his spell costs the least so he is most likely to cast and get value after the mech has died
Differences between Galaxies Dwarf Planet - Mech is so busted on this galaxy, I have seen Mech compositions hold hands 1-5 multiple times in challenger elo games. Look for titans resolve as if it procs your Mech will hit the backline. Infiltrators are weaker on this map so keep that in mind when building early game boards. Gangplank is also OMEGABUSTED on this galaxy. Neekoverse - I just wanted to thank riot for removing this Galaxy Superdense - I tend to run 4 infiltrator instead of ziggs at level 8. Also if winstreaking you might roll more in stage 3 as any round you win it is likely you're doing an extra 2 damage which puts a lot of pressure on a lobby. Trade Sector - Greatly dislike this galaxy for Mech but never miss the chance to level if you can afford it while winstreaking. Going level 7 right after stage 3 carousel can be the difference between hitting an early legendary or hitting important mech units. Treasure Trove - Not a great galaxy for Mech as you have 4 units in your composition that do not benefit greatly from items (Mystic units and annie/fizz) Also Mech doesn't benefit too greatly by having perfect items so the benefit that other compositions get is much greater. Galactic Armory - Great for pushing early winstreaks. Always look to slam 2 full items before any pvp rounds even begin. Binary Star - Look to take glove or tear on the first carousel. NEED to win streak as mech isn't as strong later in the game. Not as bad for mech as people make it seem but you usually need 2 dodge items (QSS, HOJ, Trapclaw, and shroud of stillness) in order to make your mech survive versus the 4 cyber players in the lobby. Need perfect Viktor items as another issue mech has in this galaxy is the fact that mystic units along with other mech units can't utilize items well. Plunder Planet - Always push levels and try to bully other players around. Anytime you can prevent another player from killing any of your units you are denying them 2-3 gold which is a huge early game. Most of the time you will level to 8 on 4-1 and be 9 in late stage 4 or early stage 5. Can also decide to roll down on 3-5 after stage 5 carousel at level 7 in order to get as much gold as possible off the galaxy and prevent other players from killing units. Everyone spikes really hard in stage 4 on this galaxy. Salvage world - I'm still unsure of this galaxy, I have only played 5 games on this galaxy but in 2 of them I opened with a redbuff ludens lucian with blaster buff that felt really strong. Not as important to run an early game composition that can utilize mech items well. I'm sure I missed some stuff within this guide and will try to answer any questions in the comments over the next few days.
Complicated identity hoping this post will help me feel better...and maybe figure out some general labels
Advice Requested. I feel really complicated as far as how I would be labeled. (I hate the idea of labels too because I know it's all a spectrum...but anyway!) I grew up as a female tombyish ace, and it was weird not being able to understand sexual desire. In my childhood and in most of my teen years, I was a sex-adverse / sex-repulsed ace. Over time starting around age 20ish, I shifted more to gray ace / demisexual territory with a very few rare but intense and inconvenient splashes of high sex drive (going from zero to nympho). As a sex-repulsed tween/teen, I had my very first very strong romantic infatuation with a rather feminine hetero cis female classmate. To this day, I never told her. At that time, I was having strong feelings of not fitting in as a female - hating the expression of female gender, resenting being biologically female, and wishing I had been born male instead. My secret infatuation with my contentedly cis female classmate felt very much like it was fed by my own internal feelings of having a male soul. As a teen, I fantasized about one day having top surgery to remove my breasts because they were too big to go flat enough to pass if I were to try a binder. I also learned I felt really at home with playing male roles in theatrical extracurricular activities and loved how I looked in male costuming and with fake facial hair. I did occasionally also like dressing up in dresses with makeup and doing my nails, but if I were to try wearing dresses and makeup every day, my soul would feel like it was dying. As another interesting aside, when my mom first told me what lesbians were (I was maybe 10 at the time), I thought that it was really cool that there were more options out there besides being with a man and I, as an ace pre-teen, felt excited by the idea of maybe being an asexual lesbian (being sex-replulsed / sex-averse for me in my childhood took the form of being turned off specifically by hetero sex, and I had no idea until years later that women even could have sex with each other- LOL). It's funny that being ace for much of my life kept me pretty naïve and uninterested in learning about sex throughout my teen years. Even today I sometimes run into moments where I don't know about something that everyone else seems to know. My second ever romantic infatuation was not until I was 18, and it was with a hetero cis male. I also first recognized sexual attraction with that same person, and it was super weird to have that first ah-ha moment of figuring out what sexual attraction even felt like after thinking I was immune to it. However, sexual feelings were still accompanied by very strong emotional romantic feelings, and the sexual feelings immediately went away when he revealed that he would definitely want to have sex with me but did not have any of the emotional feelings for me that I had for him. In my early 20's, I was emotionally manipulated into a marriage with a cis hetero male that I had no sexual feelings for or romantic "in love" feelings for or deep attraction to on really any level - and I honestly just wanted to stay celibate as an ace. The relationship was incredibly damaging mentally and emotionally, and I thought I'd never be happy or myself again. Once mercifully divorced, I still considered myself hetero because, while I thought women looked sexy, I still never had the desire to do anything physically sexual with a woman. I bounced through several short-lived dating relationships with men and a lot of time being single and feeling romantically unsatisfied. I somehow began to feel comfortable in my female body and no longer have the desire to have top surgery, but inside, my soul still feels at least half male. I like female pronouns. I still love dressing up as a man. I still wouldn't be able to stand being in dresses and makeup all the time. I do like the attention when I feel like wearing dresses and makeup though. I think my success at striking this happy harmony between outer female and internal male was because of getting to develop hobbies and interests to feed the male part of me so that basically I found a life that allowed me to be as masculine or as feminine as I wanted. I feel lucky this way. My genes let me muscle bulk easily if I want and my face structure looks male or female depending on how I try to look. Fast forward to now. I've been in a lukewarm relationship with a cis hetero male for a year and a half now, but I'm not feeling happy anymore because the chemistry is not strong enough and my feelings aren't either. I plan to end it as soon as I can, but it's complicated by the fact that the quarantine affected both of our jobs enough to make us move in together just to afford to live. Over the past several months, I've been starting to question whether I'm bisexual, but that's a bit complicated as an ace. I'm accepting that I think I'm at least biromantic. I've been feeling an increasingly strong desire to try dating women. I don't know how to start (with dating or coming out) but the idea of dating another woman has become a daily thought. Is it time for awkward bisexual finger guns yet? Labels are really confusing so I don't know if I would be considered genderfluid, genderqueer, non-binary, transgender enough to be transgender, ace enough anymore to be ace, bisexual or just biromantic... or anything else. You get the idea. This has been a lot of words, so thanks for reading if you are still here. I've been in therapy for low-grade-depression caused by to feeling stuck in my current relationship, though I haven't yet brought up my thoughts of maybe being bi yet to my therapist. I've been feeling repressed and closeted to the point that I even started to have dreams about being with women. I also find my thoughts wandering back to past experiences, like when a bi friend told me she had a crush on me or when a cute lesbian asked me if I was gay on a dance floor at my college reunion a few years ago. I wish I had the feelings back then that I have now (maybe it is still just romantic, but I now would love to at least kiss a woman). On the inside, I feel like I'm silently screaming every day and like I really want to shave my head into a spiky fauxhawk and dye my hair something crazy like electric purple. I've had a really hard time keeping up with my job, household chores, etc because of feeling so emotionally weighed down and thought-distracted by not being able to get all my feelings out in one place... until now. Anyway, thanks so much for listening. I think I am already starting to feel a bit better.
I think I’m trans male and I don’t know what to think or what to do
Throwaway because people irl know my reddit and I think this is too personal to have on there. I’m 23 AFAB and I think I might be a trans male. I’ve always gravitated towards male targeted toys, clothes, sports and accessories. I’ve been called “one of the lads” for most of my teen and uni life and I’ve grown very comfortable in this place as being seen as “one of the guys even though I’m not a guy”. I came out as bisexual earlier this year after finally admitting to myself that I’m attracted to women, but honestly it didn’t bring me any kind of relief. I don’t feel comfortable being intimate with women, because I don’t like my body.. and I’m starting to think that maybe I don’t like my body because I would much rather have a male body. There actually isn’t anything wrong with my body and I don’t have any desire to lose weight or wear make up, I’m just.. not happy with it? It’s a weird kind of unhappy where I don’t feel any need to improve my appearance because deep down I don’t think it would take away this feeling of not being happy with the body I’m in. I’m scared of transitioning. I don’t know why because everybody had a very positive reaction to me coming out as bi. I have lots of trans and non binary pals and I am a huge supporter of their journey. I’m a big advocate for trans women being women, and trans men being men and I have previously cut several close people out of my life due to their refusal to get with the program. I come from a relatively conservative and traditional religious family but tbh nobody really cared about the bi thing and I think my extended family would struggle with the pronoun change (we’re from a rural farming town. Just got our first open bisexual ever and it was me lmao), I don’t think would shun me or anything like that. My family doesn’t care who I love as long as it’s a sober consenting adult who’s not after the family money and farms lol. I have all the support in the world and so I don’t know why I’m so terrified to admit this to myself. I desperately wish that I was born a boy, and I have the option to change that and change that in an environment where people most likely will be supportive of me. So I don’t know why I can’t do it.. I also live in New Zealand, and kiwis are pretty chilled out about most things, so I don’t think I’m going to get verbally attacked by strangers in public or anything like that. What should I do? As a whole I don’t think I’m “unhappy” as a girl, but I’m definitely not happy. I don’t know what my next steps should be and how to edge my way into this. I’m confused and I don’t know what to do. I don’t think I have internalised transphobia? I love and am fiercely proud and protective over all of my LGBT+ friends. My issue doesn’t seem to be other people accepting me or me accepting other people - the issue is me accepting myself. Is this normal? Am I normal for feeling like this? Any advice would be appreciated. I feel so lost.
I (17F) am very confused about my romantic orientation
Disclaimer: before I start I'd just like to say I don't personally know any non-binary people. I'm not trying to exclude them, they just aren't relevant to my journey and experience so far. Also, English is my second language so forgive me if I make any mistakes. Hello, everyone! I've been lurking this subreddit for a few months as I've been considering I might be bi. About a year ago I expressed to my friends the thought that I might be biromantic. I've always felt this deep connection to women and had very intense friendships with other girls to the degree I would sometimes get a little jealous. More recently I've realized that I'm actually sexually attracted to women as well as men (there were quite clear signs for a long time, I was just doing my best to ignore them) but have questioned what I previously thought about my romantic orientation. I still relate more to women and they are definitely the gender I tend to feel the most comfortable around; however, I have a hard time imagining me kissing any of the girls I know but have no problem imagining myself kissing some guys. I also have a hard time visualizing me in a relationship with the same sex in the future. I come from a catholic background (second person in our close family to reject the religion) so internalized homophobia might be one of the reasons. Also, I might be having a hard time imagining me in a same-sex relationship because I know my conservative family wouldn't approve. Maybe I just haven't met the right person, maybe I am not used to seeing romantic relationships with women as an option, maybe I just don't feel that romantic connection because I know it won't be reciprocated (there aren't a lot of openly queer girls in my town), maybe I just have developed such deep friendships for so long I can't see them as anything else ... or maybe I'm just not into women romantically at all. So I want to ask you: have you ever experience something like this? I really just want to hear your stories (if you're willing to share them) to put things into perspective and maybe understand what I'm going through better ? Yeah that's all. Thanks for reading.
We had 221 responses, which is about 7% of our user base (~3100). In total, that gives us a 6.35% margin of error at 95% confidence. Which is to say, the results aren't super scientific so take it with a grain of salt lol. I'm sure we have some biases in that more active members of this sub were more likely to respond, etc. so this is more of an informal fun thing than science. You can view a pretty version of the results with all the data here. It'll break it down with charts and it's very pretty to look at. Since Google did all the hard work for me there, I'm just going to let y'all look at that and talk about some of the more interesting things here. Some highlights of the data:
We're a bit more evenly split in terms of gender than many trans subs on reddit, but trans women still make a plurality of the population with 45%, trans men at 38%, non-binary folk at 10%, and other people making up the remaining 7%
A plurality of us are bisexual/pansexual at 43%, which is pretty neat. I know personally, transitioning did some weird stuff to my sexuality (ace to bi) so it'd be neat to see next year if other people also had their sexuality change during transition. Also I love that 13% chose "it's complicated"
About 2/3rds of us are on HRT, and about half of us are living life as our identified gender
Only about 1/4th of us don't see stealth as being the goal of our transition
43% of us identify with the label socialist, so we're all a bunch of lefties lol. But we still had 2 people identify with being "far-right," which means we truly live in a society
We don't tend to like traaaaaa or egg_irl (hardly shocking), but we have a fairly normalized distribution for other subs. We're also all a bunch of loners with no irl connections to the trans community apparently (73%), but we want to be more involved in general. Kinda hard rn with covid though :/
We generally align with the mainstream trans community in terms of our stances on controversial issues. We tend to agree that trans athletes should be able to compete in athletics, that minors should be able to start medical transition, that [email protected] is a slur (who knew how relevant that question would become now on reddit lol), that it was a good move from reddit to ban GC spaces (this was the most unanimous), that trans people aren't seen as "cool" in our cultures, that we don't look down on people who don't pass, that we feel bad for detransitioners, and that the term transgender is preferable to transsexual
We deviated from the mainstream trans community a bit on a couple responses. We leaned towards thinking that trans spaces are over-sexualized rather than being sex-positive. We had 31% of people strongly disagree with using neopronouns, but it was a very even distribution across the rest of the reponses (15-18% for each other option). We tended to thing that "doomposting" and "hugboxing" were issues in the trans community. About 1/3rd of us strongly agreed that dysphoria is required to be trans. We also weren't terribly proud to be trans, and we thought that cancel culture was an issue in the community
Any thoughts or surprises? Feel free to discuss below!
MAME 0.223 has finally arrived, and what a release it is – there’s definitely something for everyone! Starting with some of the more esoteric additions, Linus Åkesson’s AVR-based hardware chiptune project and Power Ninja Action Challenge demos are now supported. These demos use minimal hardware to generate sound and/or video, relying on precise CPU timings to work. With this release, every hand-held LCD game from Nintendo’s Game & Watch and related lines is supported in MAME, with Donkey Kong Hockey bringing up the rear. Also of note is the Bassmate Computer fishing aid, made by Nintendo and marketed by Telko and other companies, which is clearly based on the dual-screen Game & Watch design. The steady stream of TV games hasn’t stopped, with a number of French releases from Conny/VideoJet among this month’s batch. For the first time ever, games running on the Barcrest MPU4 video system are emulated well enough to be playable. Titles that are now working include several games based on the popular British TV game show The Crystal Maze, Adders and Ladders, The Mating Game, and Prize Tetris. In a clear win for MAME’s modular architecture, the breakthrough came through the discovery of a significant flaw in our Motorola MC6840 Programmable Timer Module emulation that was causing issues for the Fairlight CMI IIx synthesiser. In the same manner, the Busicom 141-PF desk calculator is now working, thanks to improvements made to Intel 4004 CPU emulation that came out of emulating the INTELLEC 4 development system and the prototype 4004-based controller board for Flicker pinball. The Busicom 141-PF is historically significant, being the first application of Intel’s first microprocessor. Fans of classic vector arcade games are in for a treat this month. Former project coordinator Aaron Giles has contributed netlist-based sound emulation for thirteen Cinematronics vector games: Space War, Barrier, Star Hawk, Speed Freak, Star Castle, War of the Worlds, Sundance, Tail Gunner, Rip Off, Armor Attack, Warrior, Solar Quest and Boxing Bugs. This resolves long-standing issues with the previous simulation based on playing recorded samples. Colin Howell has also refined the sound emulation for Midway’s 280-ZZZAP and Gun Fight. V.Smile joystick inputs are now working for all dumped cartridges, and with fixes for ROM bank selection the V.Smile Motion software is also usable. The accelerometer-based V.Smile Motion controller is not emulated, but the software can all be used with the standard V.Smile joystick controller. Another pair of systems with inputs that now work is the original Macintosh (128K/512K/512Ke) and Macintosh Plus. These systems’ keyboards are now fully emulated, including the separate numeric keypad available for the original Macintosh, the Macintosh Plus keyboard with integrated numeric keypad, and a few European ISO layout keyboards for the original Macintosh. There are still some emulation issues, but you can play Beyond Dark Castle with MAME’s Macintosh Plus emulation again. In other home computer emulation news, MAME’s SAM Coupé driver now supports a number of peripherals that connect to the rear expansion port, a software list containing IRIX hard disk installations for SGI MIPS workstations has been added, and tape loading now works for the Specialist system (a DIY computer designed in the USSR). Of course, there’s far more to enjoy, and you can read all about it in the whatsnew.txt file, or get the source and 64-bit Windows binary packages from the download page. (For brevity, promoted V.Smile software list entries and new Barcrest MPU4 clones made up from existing dumps have been omitted here.)
